Initializing a New Fund

Introduction

Now that you’ve configured a static environment, you can use it to initialize your test fund.

On the Home page, navigate to the Environment Control Panel by clicking on the Create/Load/Save Static Environments link,

or by selecting Environments from the slide-out menu.

Once on that page, in the Initialize Investing Environment using Static Environment panel select simple in the drop-down list box, enter the date January 1, 2018 in the date field and click on the Initialize button.

You should use the date given as the sample events available assumes that the initial closing for the fund was on that date.

You should also note that an initialization completely and permanently deletes all information from the :current and :pending working environments. Unless you’ve previously saved those environments to file, they are gone forever.

If everything was successful, you’ll see a green message box similar to the following:

Simple Reporting

You can confirm that the fund was initialized correctly by inspecting the commitment, financial and portfolio ledgers from the reports page.

Return to the home page (by clicking on the Timpson Gray logo) and select the the Commitments in the bottom panel (labelled Financial, Portfolio & Comparison Reports).

By default, this will show the partners’ commitment positions in the :current working environment on the current date. However, the environment to be inspected can be changed by selecting its name in the drop-down list at the top of the page (useful to view the :pending environment’s information), and the date can be changed by adjusting the value of the date field.

You can see that the commitments are as expected:

You can also inspect the financial positions using another of the report pages - the Financial report page. This page can be accessed from the link in the bottom panel of the Home page, or by using the report slide-out menu accessed by clicking on the third menu button just below the Timpson Gray logo and clicking on its Financial item.

As you can see, the balances on all financial ledgers accounts are 0, and the portfolio is empty.

This is correct. An initial closing does not automatically create a Capital Call event. This must be initiated by the user.

Next Steps

You’re now ready to load and process the sample events.
